2008 BEYOND THE DOOR CUBAN ART EXHIBITION

This Spring, Charleston, South Carolina, will host its First Charleston International Arts Festival with a main focus on Cuba, its art, culture and people. The festival kicks off with a Cuban Art Exhibition “Beyond the Door” on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the Avery Research Center of the College of Charleston, 125 Bull Street, Charleston, SC, with a preview reception from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and will run through April 26, 2008. Sipping JetstreamsThe second part of the festival will take place on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at El Bohio Cuban Restaurant, 1977 Maybank Hwy, Charleston, SC 29412, starting at 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a movie screening of Sipping Jetstreams and a Cuban fiesta. Sipping Jetstreams, compliments of Studio411, is a film from surfing's premiere producer, Taylor Steele and renowned photographer Dustin Humphrey. Winner of the best cinematography award at the 2007 X-Dance Film Festival, Sipping journeys uncharted routes, including Cuba, while capturing the happenings and personalities of the local culture they encounter.

The movie will run at 6:30 p.m. and then again at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person in advance and $35 per person at the door. In addition to these two events, the South Carolina World Trade Center Organization has been invited to use the Avery Research Center during this exhibition. On April 8, 2008, the organization will host one of its popular membership events at the Avery.
